Driving

Insurance

You must be insured for using your car for business purposes if you use your vehicle for such purposes. If you aren’t and have an accident, the company will not be held liable.

Driving tired

PCI Pal discourages all staff from driving whilst tired, particularly when undertaking long distance journeys in a vehicle, or after flying.

If you know in advance that you are likely to be tired whilst driving (for example after taking an overnight flight) then you should book a night in a nearby hotel and then travel the next morning once refreshed and safe to drive.  If you start feeling tired whilst driving:

At the first sign of tiredness, stop and take a break
Stop in a safe place – don’t stop on a motorway hard shoulder
Drink a caffeinated drink
Take a short nap of around 15-20 minutes

Winding down the window or turning up music is not an effective way to combat tiredness.  If you find yourself doing these things it is a sign you are tired, and need a break.

Note that if you have an accident, and it can be proven that you were suffering from fatigue then you can be prosecuted for dangerous driving even if you have not injured yourself or anyone else.
