If you are called for jury service you should be given a minimum of 4 weeks’ notice (and you are usually asked to respond within 7 days), so please advise your line manager and HR in writing as soon as possible. You should provide a copy of your jury summons.
Duration
Jury service is usually for 10 working days, although some cases may take longer. If you are told at court that the service is likely to last longer please let us know as soon as possible so we can plan ahead. Remember that you must not discuss the trial with anyone until it’s finished (and after the trial is finished there are still clear limitations, so ensure you are clear about these).
When you’re on jury service you might not be needed at court all day, so talk to your manager beforehand about whether you need to come into work if this happens, so everyone’s clear on expectations.
Pay
We will provide 2 weeks normal pay, and thereafter will review the situation on a case by case basis. If you receive any payment from the courts in compensation of loss of earnings, then this amount will either be paid to the company, or deducted from any monies paid by PCI Pal.
We will not pay any expenses relating to travel, parking, food or drink. You may be able to claim these back from the court, and can find out more by checking: https://www.gov.uk/jury-service/what-you-can-claim
Deferring Jury Service
You can ask to defer jury service for up to 12 months, if you can provide a specific reason to the courts, along with a date when you’d be available. PCI Pal may be able to write a letter of support.
